The Devil Exists
Last Sunday’s Gospel was taken from Mt. 12:22-28. Our Savior cast out a demon from a demon-possessed man, and healed the man from being mute and blind. The Pharisees then accused Him of casting out demons by the power of Beelzebub. Christ was incarnate and revealed to humanity His ultimate power over Satan, evil, sin, and death. The Pharisees recognized the power of Satan in the world, and even accused our Savior of utilizing Satan’s power to fight Satan. I want us to take this observation seriously — namely, that everyone in the story indisputably recognized that Satan existed and was at work.
What do we think today? We live in a time where many do not believe that Satan exists and is at work. Even Christians have been fooled and lulled into being asleep, when we are really at war “against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” (Eph 6:12). Let us be vigilant and fight against the evil that invades our homes, parishes, and communities, and let us allow the victory of Christ to be our victory, in and through and with Him. To God be the Glory.
