We, at St. John Chrysostom’s American Coptic Orthodox Church in Orange County, would like to welcome you to our website. We hope that you will leave here with a glimpse of the vibrant and beautiful community that is at this Parish. And even more so, we hope that you will accept our open invitation to come visit us in person!

The community here at St. John Chrysostom’s is ethnically diverse, but one in love. We come from a variety of backgrounds, but are one in Jesus Christ. And while we are active participants and contributors in our society, we walk in the ancient faith of Coptic Orthodoxy. 

Coptic Orthodox Christianity began in Egypt in the first century with the preaching of Mark the Evangelist. Our Faith is a valuable addition to the local community, and we hope that our Parish is a beacon of light here in South Orange County. In bringing Coptic Orthodoxy to our local community, our aim is to present “every person perfect before Jesus Christ.” (Col. 1:28). While maintaining our Coptic Heritage and eastern spirituality, our Parish diligently ministers to those raised in today's (post)modern western society. That means we work hard at bridging our spirituality and teachings with modern day life and issues.

Liturgy. Fellowship. Teaching. Service. Witness. All of these areas are the core of our Christian development. Every member of our community is encouraged to develop deeper roots and branch out further in each and every area. Our Parish community is small, and just like rowers on a boat, everyone has to row!

Liturgically, our services are hard to describe, but come and see! We seek to maintain the beauty and depth of our prayers and services are in the English language, and color it from time to time with Coptic language, for which we offer classes throughout the year. Fellowship draws us together as a community and family in the love of Christ. We teach each other through classes and book studies. We serve ourselves by helping each other and we serve those struggling in the community. We witness to Christ through our lives, and encourage one another to be witnesses no matter how difficult the situation. Our patron saint, John Chrysostom, reminds us that "there would be no unbelievers, if we were true Christians."
