Repentance, Gospel, Conviction

In this first week of the first Coptic month of the year, I wish to impress upon you the power and importance of the Gospel. The gospel is the good news of salvation—which we desperately needed—through our Lord God and Savior, Jesus Christ. Let us regain the ears to hear the Word of God for what it is and to feel the joy that it carries.

St. John the Baptist preceded our Savior’s gospel message with the words, “Repent! For the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” Repentance is the first element necessary to receive the good news of the Gospel. May this great Saint inspire us to repent and receive the Gospel of joy from our Savior’s mouth.

St. John died for the truth, having a conviction to stand up to Herod for his immoral lifestyle. May we also live (and if necessary, die) by our convictions and stand up for the truth, no matter what the cost.
