Enslaved or Free?
Freedom does not necessarily mean that “life is easier”. The Israelites were enslaved in Egypt, and their bellies were full. When they crossed the Red Sea (Baptism), they were freed. When hungry, they were fed from heaven. When thirsty, they were given water from a rock. When enemies attached, God fought for them and destroyed the enemies. Yet the Israelites still desired to return to Egypt, where they could eat to their hearts’ content. Do we sometimes desire enslavement to sin over freedom in Christ? The freedom given to us in our baptism must be lived in our life. Otherwise, we return to enslavement and that is comparable to the Israelites desiring to return to Egypt.
